In this article, I will show you how to buy a domain name from GoDaddy – one of the largest domain name companies in the world.

The advantage of buying a domain name here is that GoDaddy's interface has been Vietnameseized, so you just need to pay attention to follow each step to be successful.

NOTE: You need a VISA or MASTER CARD international payment card to purchase a domain name. These cards are easy to register to work at banks, get quickly within 1 hour, longer it is about 1 week. Usually you will do a DEBIT card – ie spend all the money in the card.

First, you visit GoDaddy's official page: https://vn.godaddy.com/

Then enter your domain name idea in the search box, then press Search Domains:

For example, I type xunchuong, the result will be like this:

Normally, you should buy a .com domain name, which is also why GoDaddy will check this domain extension first and let you know if it is available or not. In this case, the domain name xuanchuong.com is the website you are reading here, I bought it a long time ago, so no one buys it anymore.

And the red arrow area points to other domain extensions you can still buy, along with their prices. If you can't buy the .com extension for the domain you want to choose, you can choose other extensions (click Add to Cart at the corresponding domain name). The most popular extensions after .com are .net and .org

There are many different domain name extensions (.mobi, .tv, .co, etc.), but you should think carefully before buying, because new domain extensions that are too unfamiliar to users can cause problems. incident occurred. produce negative effects.

I try to find another domain to see if there is a .com extension:

So the domain xunchuong@.com is still there. Suggestions to buy other extensions (2 green arrows) you should ignore, because usually only .com domain name is enough.

To buy a .com domain, click Add to Cart (yellow arrow only).

You will see the price of the domain name right next to it. Depending on when it was registered, this number will vary, but is often much lower than the typical price you see on other domain name resellers. Here, the price that GoDaddy offers is 69,000 VND (so cheap anyway!).

But if you pay close attention, this price only applies if you buy 2 years or more. The first year the price is 69,000 VND, the next year it costs 349 thousand VND. GoDaddy's marketing method is to sell very cheaply the first year, and sell more expensive the following years…

OK, back to the main topic. After clicking Add to Cart, click Continue Shopping:

1. Privacy Protection

This is a feature that helps you hide personal information when registering a domain name if someone wants to check the information, this feature will be useful if you want to protect your personal identity. But it may not be necessary, and it doesn't come cheap. In fact, I have never purchased this service (please select No thanks):

2. Hosting

Companies that sell domain names often like to sell extra hosting (where your website data is later stored – like your computer's hard drive). But there is a familiar sentence that you will often hear:

Do not buy hosting from a company that specializes in selling domain names.

The reason is simple, because people only do their best at one task. That is, you should buy hosting at a company that specializes in hosting.

3. Email domain name

To create professional looking emails like admin@xuanchuong@.com, instead of using Gmail, Hotmail or any other popular email service. However, in most cases, when you first create a website, you don't need to worry about this (anytime you want, you can buy it later). In addition, another problem is that the prices here are quite expensive. For that reason you also choose No, thanks!

Then you click Continue. GoDaddy will again suggest selling additional services:

But you just ignore these extra selling suggestions, because none of them are really necessary.

What you need to care about is the number of years that you want to buy the domain name, the default is 2 years, the price is 410 000 as shown in the picture (the price when you buy it may be different).

If you are not too sure about your long-term website development, you can choose to buy 1 year, next year if you still use the website, it's okay to buy again (then the price is no longer 69,000 VND). :

You look at the bottom and you will see the price of the domain name including tax (if there is a promotional code the price can be further reduced, I don't have it, so I don't enter):

So if I buy domain xunchuong@.com within 1 year, the price is 199,000 VND.

But currently you do not have an account, you need to create an account to buy a domain name, it's right at the top left hand side.

A page appears, you fill in the information to register (make sure the email you are still using):

You need to choose a password that meets their standards (all marked as good):

You also need to write down your PIN in case you need assistance.

When done, click Create Account. You will be taken to the Payment Information page:

In this section, you fill in the correct information, your name matches the ID card / citizen identification card above, the phone number the owner is using, the address where you are staying. Actually, the postal code is not so important, it's okay if you type it wrong, but don't enter the wrong email, name and phone number, because that may be the information they ask to check in some cases.

Once done, click Save, next GoDaddy will ask you to enter payment information from the VISA card:

You enter the card number, expiration date and security code in the respective fields.

The front of the card should look like this:

Card Number: A 16-digit string, like mine starting with 4214 XXXX YYYY ZZZZ (I wrote XYZ to avoid revealing my actual card number!)

Expiration date : is the number 07/19

And here is the back of the card – the back contains information about the security code, the number 567 is the security code (the number 1234 is not relevant):

Next, click Save to confirm the Payment information.

Finally, you click Pay Now in the top right corner to officially buy the domain name.

Upon successful purchase, GoDaddy will send you an email to verify that you are the correct owner of the email you entered at the time of domain name registration. Remember to click the confirmation link.

P / S: Now you only have one domain name, to have an official website you need to do a few more things:

• Buy hosting or Sign up for a free blog (like Blogger's blogspot or wordpress.com)
• Point domain to hosting (or blog)
• Finally, if that's the case with hosting, you need to install a content management system for the web (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal). If it's a free blog, they already have a content management system for you, so you don't need to install any more.
